North Campus Child Care Center
North Campus Child Care Center
Update as of: January 20, 2009
Current status:
Project is in the Construction Phase and is being managed locally by University Facilities Planning and Design staff. The construction contract was awarded to BRD, Inc. and Kideney Architects is the design consultant on this project. Currently the North Campus Childcare Center Addition is in construction and is projected to be completed in March 2009. At the completion of the addition it will be occupied by current North Campus occupants and allow the existing North Campus building to be renovated to accommodate the South Campus occupants in May 2009. Butler Annex A & B (South Campus) will then follow in construction from June to December 2009. Upon completion, the temporary north campus occupants will move back to the renovated South Campus Childcare Center. Minor renovations will need to be completed to the original North Campus building to complete the childcare project.
Brief Description:
UB provides Child Care Services on the South Campus within the two Butler Annex buildings. UB’s friends Bethel Head Start and Summit programs also occupy these buildings. This project consists of upgrading the infrastructure of the two Annex buildings, including but not limited to: replacing windows, replacing the exterior skin with new insulated panels, replacing the roofs, upgrading fire alarm and electrical systems, abatement, creating accessible toilets, creating new entries and a connector between the two buildings. In order to accommodate the Child Care Services on campus, additional facilities will be created adjacent and attached to the existing building on the North Campus. The South Campus children will reside on the North Campus during construction on the South Campus. Once the construction on the South Campus is complete, children will move back to the South Campus facility and the temporary facilities on the North Campus will remain for a few years to accommodate the growth and wait list.
