School of Engineering and Applied Sciences

Update as of: February 2010

Project Overview:
The new School of Engineering and Applied Sciences building will be a 138,000 gross square foot facility and will accommodate Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering and the Dean’s suite. It will be a 3 story structure plus partial basement and mechanical mezzanine, constructed on the former engineering trailer site, west and north of Jarvis Hall and east of Ketter Hall on the North Campus. The building will consist mainly of research space and labs, including a clean room, offices and classrooms. The loading dock for the building will be connected at the ground level loading dock of Jarvis. Shared spaces have been encouraged to allow for more public spaces throughout the building. The building design is intended to allow for informal interaction and formal collaboration between faculty, students and staff. The building will enhance UB’s engineering education, research, and development, which is expected to lead technological and economic development.

Current status:
Construction, including site preparation, installation of underground utilities, and structural work is currently in progress. L.P. Ciminelli is the low bidder on a second bid package to include the remainder of construction to complete the building.  Construction is being managed by the State University Construction Fund (SUCF). Perkins & Will Architects, P.C. is the design consultant and Turner Construction is the construction manager. The plan is to complete construction in the spring of 2012 and have occupants move in the summer 2012.
