Hearing Conservation

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), under Title 29 Code of Federal Regulations 1910.95, has issued an Occupational Noise Exposure Standard which requires employers to establish a Hearing Conservation Program when certain conditions exist. When engineering controls cannot reduce employee noise exposure levels below 85 decibels (dBA) for an 8-hour time-weighted average sound level (TWA), a program and hearing protection are required. A monitoring program is also necessary. When the sound levels in any location of the University reach those listed in the OSHA Standard, this Hearing Conservation Program will be in effect for those employees exposed. Effected employees will be informed of the requirements of the Program.
