Talking to Regulators

If your lab is inspected:

  1. Listen carefully to the questions before responding.
  2. Answer the question honestly and to the point.
  3. Ask for clarification when necessary.
  4. Arguing with inspectors doesn't give you "points" - they are there to inspect, not debate standards.
  5. If you don't know the answer to a question, tell the inspector your don't know (but will find out!).
  6. If an inspector notes a problem in your lab, correct it immediately, if possible, or outline plans for correcting it.

Remember, the inspectors are not there to answer questions - if you have questions about your lab or your wastes, ask EH&S.
